It turns out that the origin of the hamsa is very ancient. Jews in Islamic countries adopted the hamsa later
although already in the Bible, the hamsa - the hand - represents divine power, and the outstretched palm is a symbol for the Kohanim (priests)
who bless the people of Israel. In Judaism, the hamsa is also linked to the hand of Miriam, Moses and Aaron's sister,
and also to marking the doorposts of the house with blood during the plague of the firstborn, and from there perhaps the idea that the hamsa guards and protects the inhabitants of the house.
The Jewish hamsa represents the fifth letter - Heh, a symbol of God, the shape of fig leaves from the Seven Species,
and the open hand, symbolizing abundance and giving.
The origin of the hamsa is apparently connected to a Roman goddess; in Islam, the hamsa represents the hand of the Prophet Muhammad's daughter,
with its five fingers symbolizing the five pillars of Islam.
Hamsas are more relevant today than ever. Their traditional place is preserved at the entrances of homes, in jewelry,
on amulets for those embarking on a journey, in cars, wallets, or keychains. But in a world returning to tradition,
where the pilgrimage to the graves of righteous individuals, the use of amulets, and seeking help from Kabbalists cut across all sectors,
the hamsa is also more present as an Israeli design motif in art, museums, and even the business world.
