There are artists who create art – and there are artists who create joy. David Gerstein belongs to the latter category. His colorful metal sculptures – figures of cyclists, guitarists, sports shoes, wall clocks – look as if they jumped out of a child's drawing, filling the world with color and life. Gerstein is one of the most successful and widespread Israeli artists in the world, and his works adorn homes, galleries, museums, and public squares across the globe.

In our David Gerstein artwork collection you will find a special selection of wall and table sculptures – each one a piece of true Israeli art that will bring color and energy to any home.

Who is David Gerstein?

David (Dudu) Gerstein was born in Jerusalem in 1944. From a young age, he showed exceptional artistic talent, and at the age of thirteen, he already participated in art camps in Jerusalem. After military service, he began his formal art studies – at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the Art Students League in New York, and finally at St Martin's School of Art in London.

This training – Jerusalem, Paris, New York, London – gave Gerstein a broad and rich artistic foundation that allowed him to develop a completely unique style that combines influences from all over the world.

The Unique Style – Israeli 3D Pop Art

In the late 1970s, Gerstein made a decision that would permanently change his career: he wanted to expand the boundaries of two-dimensional painting into three dimensions. He began cutting out the central figures from his paintings and letting them stand in space – without the traditional background, without the usual rectangular frame.

Thus, the style that made him famous was born: multi-layered, laser-cut metal sculptures, painted in vibrant, durable colors with a special lacquer coating. Gerstein himself defined his style as "second-generation Pop Art" – following Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, and David Hockney, but with a completely unique Israeli personal signature.

The recurring motifs in his works are diverse and stunning: cyclists in motion, guitarists and musicians, women walking in high heels, colorful butterflies, wall clocks, flowers, and more. All are captured in a moment of life – in movement, joy, and color.

International Achievements – From Singapore to New York

Gerstein is one of the Israeli artists with the widest international presence. His works have been exhibited in museums and galleries in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Berlin, Rome, Singapore, New York, Taiwan, and dozens of other locations. His monumental sculptures adorn public squares and open spaces in Israel and around the world.

His most famous public sculpture, "Momentum," is the tallest public sculpture in Singapore. His cyclists were purchased by Lance Armstrong – Tour de France champion. His name is even mentioned in the writings of Stephen King. In 2016, he won the Taiwan Artistic Creation Award.

Some of his works were chosen to appear on huge billboards in Israel for companies like Isracard and the First International Bank – testament to the fact that his art is considered a symbol of energy, optimism, and Israeli aesthetics.

What Makes Gerstein's Work Special?

Precise Laser Cutting: Each piece undergoes precise laser cutting that creates sharp, clean edges. The small details – fingers, sleeves, guitar parts – are all textured and accurate.

Layering: One of Gerstein's secrets is layering – each piece is built from multiple layers of metal placed one on top of the other, creating true depth and three-dimensionality. When viewed from different angles – you see different things.

Durable Colors: The coloring is done with special printing inks with a very durable lacquer coating. The works do not fade, do not wear out, and maintain their vibrancy for many years.

Philosophy of Joy: Gerstein himself said: "My art is mainly about the joys and pleasures of life. I want my works to convey a sense of cheerfulness and delight." This is felt in every piece – there is no heaviness here, no sadness. Only life, movement, and joy.

Gerstein's Work as a Gift – For Whom and When?

For a Housewarming: Gerstein's artwork is a perfect housewarming gift. It brings color, life, and energy to a new home – and a gift that will remain on the wall for decades.

For Traveling Abroad: Gerstein's work is a perfect representation of Israeli art abroad. Recognized, respected, and impressive – anyone who receives it knows they have received something real and special.

For the Office and Business Space: Gerstein's works are also suitable for offices, lobbies, meeting rooms – any place where you want to bring quality art and positive energy.
