Sterling silver 925 jewelry is among the most popular in the world — beautiful, durable, meaningful, and accessible. But before you buy a necklace, pendant, earrings, bracelet, or ring in silver, there are a few things worth knowing: what does the number 925 actually mean, what is the difference between real silver and silver plating, how is it made, and how do you choose a piece that will last for years?
In this complete guide you will find everything you need to know — just the facts, clearly explained — from the people who have been designing and manufacturing sterling silver 925 jewelry in Israel since 2005.

About Israel Gifts – Who We Are
"Aharoni Import and Marketing" — the company behind Israel Gifts — is a development, manufacturing, and wholesale marketing company specializing in sterling silver 925 jewelry, stainless steel jewelry, and Judaica jewelry. Our story began in 2005, founded by two brothers with a passion and love for jewelry and Jewish heritage.

Meet the Designer – Shahar Aharoni
My name is Shahar Aharoni, and I have been designing, developing, and manufacturing jewelry since 2005. I am personally responsible for the design and development of the majority of the sterling silver 925 and steel jewelry on the site, including adapting them for large-scale commercial production.
During nearly ten years of living in Bangkok, Thailand, I developed our core collection — incorporating stones, crystals, and elements from the worlds of Judaica, faith, and Jewish identity. During this period I established a local company, managed professional teams, participated in international exhibitions, and guided complete processes of development, manufacturing, and distribution of thousands of designs to markets around the world.
Over the years, a wide-ranging collection of over 2,000 different designs has been built — marketed and sold in collaboration with businesses and clients around the world. I have also developed and manufactured collections and jewelry for dozens of companies and designers from Israel, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Iceland, and other countries.
My specialty focuses on designing jewelry with cultural and spiritual depth, combined with an uncompromising insistence on quality, precision, and long years of practical experience in the world of commercial manufacturing.
Today, as a leading company in the field of Judaica and faith jewelry, we are making the full collection available to the general public for the first time — allowing a direct connection to designs created from experience, commitment to tradition, and a genuine passion for creation.

What Is Sterling Silver 925?
Sterling silver 925 — also called "Sterling Silver" — is a metal alloy containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% additional metals, usually copper. The reason is simple: pure silver (999) is too soft for everyday use in jewelry. Adding copper gives it the necessary hardness while preserving the familiar silver color.
This standard has existed for hundreds of years. Today, 925 is the accepted standard in most of the world for quality silver jewelry. Every genuine sterling silver 925 piece must bear an engraving of "925" or "Sterling" — usually on the inner part of the piece.

I Want Pure Silver Jewelry! Does Such a Thing Exist?
We receive many calls from customers asking: "Is this pure silver?" "Is this solid silver?" If you thought that the silver jewelry you love to wear is made of pure silver, allow us to set the record straight.
Pure silver — in its natural form — is soft, similar in that way to pure gold. This makes it difficult to work with for jewelry or other silver products in its natural state.
To give it an additional quality it was not naturally blessed with — hardness — it must be mixed with other metals such as copper, zinc, or platinum. Such a mixture is known as an alloy. Typically about 7.5% other metal is added.
This is why our silver jewelry — and silver items in general — are not pure silver, but rather 92.5% silver. It is actually possible to obtain 99.9% silver jewelry marked as 999. But this production is not common and is less lustrous than 925 silver.

The Difference Between Sterling Silver 925 and Silver Plating – What You Need to Know
This is one of the most important topics for consumers, and unfortunately also one of the most common sources of confusion.
Sterling Silver 925: Every layer of the piece is made from the silver alloy. Not a layer on top — the material itself throughout. Such a piece will last for many years, can be repaired, and is durable for everyday use.
Silver Plated: This refers to a piece made from a base metal (such as copper or brass), with a very thin layer of silver on top. After a few months, the plating begins to peel or tarnish.
If you are looking for a piece of jewelry for everyday use, as a gift, or for long-term preservation — genuine sterling silver 925 is always the right choice. Browse our full collection at sterling silver 925 jewelry.
Rhodium Plating – Why Do So Many Silver 925 Pieces Come with a Coating?
Rhodium is a very precious metal from the platinum family. When a sterling silver 925 piece is coated with a layer of rhodium, it serves to protect the silver from tarnishing, give the piece a bright white luster, and extend the life of the jewelry. Rhodium plating is a protective layer on top of genuine sterling silver 925 beneath — not a substitute for it.
For example, a Panzer chain in sterling silver 925 with rhodium plating is one of our best sellers — slim, delicate, and durable.

Types of Sterling Silver 925 Chains – How to Choose the Right One
Not every sterling silver 925 chain looks and feels the same. The way the links are woven affects the appearance, flexibility, and strength. Here are the most common types:
Box Chain: Square links woven together to create a smooth, uniform texture. Very common, looks elegant, and suits most pendants. See our box chain in sterling silver 925.
Panzer Chain (Curb Chain): A chain with oval links interlocked alternately. Appears thicker, very suitable for men and those looking for a stronger look. See our thick Panzer chain in sterling silver 925.
Forzentina Chain: A very thin, delicate chain, suitable for light pendants and those who love a minimalist look.
The most common lengths: 45 cm (sits on the neck), 50 cm (the most popular), and 55–70 cm for larger pendants. Browse all types at sterling silver 925 chains.

How Is Sterling Silver 925 Jewelry Made?
There are 3 main methods for manufacturing sterling silver 925 jewelry:
1. Casting
The most popular method for commercial production of silver and gold jewelry. First, a wax model is prepared — either by hand by a craftsman who specializes in wax production, or by machine using a CAD computer file sent to a 3D printer or wax lathe. Once we have a perfect, smooth wax in the sizes we want, we proceed to master production. Each casting piece needs a metal master from which a rubber mold can be made for repeated, consistent production of many wax models.
Wax is injected into the mold to create a "wax tree" of the models to be cast. Once we have a complete tree, we place it in a sealed container and fill it with plaster. After the plaster hardens, we put it in an oven and burn out the wax from inside the plaster, creating a hollow cavity in the shape of the tree. We then pour molten sterling silver 925 into the plaster cavity, wait for the silver to harden, and cool it with water. We break the plaster and remove the silver jewelry tree.
The next step is cutting the pieces from the tree, filing away any excess material, polishing and buffing, and setting stones and applying coatings as needed.
2. Handwork
A method popular for producing small quantities or special one-of-a-kind pieces. The production is literally by hand — typically by sawing and cutting thin sheets of sterling silver 925, bending and folding to shape, soldering parts together, and manual stone setting.

3. Stamping
A method suitable for flat, thin, and light pieces of jewelry. Most commonly used in the production of earrings of various kinds. Works by cutting thin sheets of sterling silver 925 to the desired shape using a die block.

Does Real Silver Tarnish? Frequently Asked Questions
We receive many questions about silver tarnishing. Here is everything you need to know:
Does genuine sterling silver 925 tarnish?
Yes — and this is actually a sign that it is real silver. Tarnishing of silver jewelry is a natural and normal process of this metal. The tarnishing results from oxidation of the metal when it comes into contact with air.
When does sterling silver 925 tarnish?
Silver tends to oxidize and tarnish in the following cases: in contact with air (due to the natural moisture in it) or in contact with harsh substances such as chlorine, acids, sulfur, and seawater. Also in contact with the body, especially in summer when humidity is high. Our bodies contain and emit sweat, moisture, and acidity — each person at different levels. This is why the same piece of jewelry will tarnish on one person and not on another.

Can I shower with sterling silver 925 jewelry?
Yes! Water does not cause tarnishing — on the contrary, it cleans and refreshes the silver. We actually recommend showering while wearing jewelry. Soap and water clean the surface and neutralize the effects that cause tarnishing. Exception: pieces that incorporate special gemstones (turquoise, pearl, and obsidian) may lose their beauty and quality in contact with water.
How do I clean tarnished silver jewelry?
You can use a professional silver cleaning solution or a silver polishing cloth — both work excellently for restoring the shine.
Is sterling silver 925 hypoallergenic?
Sterling silver 925 is generally hypoallergenic. Pieces with rhodium plating further reduce the risk of allergic reaction.
How long will a sterling silver 925 piece last?
With basic care, a sterling silver 925 piece can last for decades. It can be cleaned and repaired.
What is the price range for silver 925 jewelry?
The range is very wide — depending on the country of manufacture, whether there are stone settings, size, weight, and more. Sterling silver 925 jewelry can be found starting from very accessible prices and upward.
How to Identify Genuine Sterling Silver 925 Jewelry
Before buying, here are some simple methods to verify you are getting the real thing:
925 Engraving: Every genuine sterling silver 925 piece should have an engraving of "925" or "Sterling" — usually on the inner part.
Magnet test: Silver is not magnetic. If the piece is attracted to a magnet, it is not sterling silver.
Uniform appearance: Quality sterling silver 925 will be uniform in color and will not reveal different layers at the edges.
Buy from a reliable source: Always better to purchase from a recognized store with clear descriptions of the material.
How to Care for Sterling Silver 925 Jewelry
Sterling silver 925 oxidizes over time — this is a natural process. But there are a few simple ways to slow it down: store silver jewelry in airtight bags when not in use; remove it before contact with chlorine and fragrance sprays; and clean gently with a special silver cloth. It is also advisable not to store silver jewelry with other metals, but separately and in a closed place.
Sterling Silver 925 as a Gift – Why It's the Right Choice

It is durable and high-quality, comes in an enormous variety, is accessible in price compared to gold, and can be personalized with engravings and meaningful symbols.
For Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish holidays, sterling silver 925 jewelry with Jewish symbols is one of the most appreciated gifts.
